The Hangover

The first thing that draws my attention from this poster are the bright lights used. The title represents the Vegas lights; it looks like some kind of Christmas bulbs glowing. In terms of proxemics, we can tell that the two actors at the front are the main characters and the guy at the back looks like he is going to get between them and cause some sort of trouble. Also, all the characters are looking ahead with a worried expression which suggests they are going to encounter something. The baby is wearing big glasses, and the character on the right is missing a tooth which suggests that the film is going to be comical. The tile and the lights at the top make the poster look like some kind of advertising poster for a Vegas show. At the bottom, below the billing block, is the release date in white capital letters: ‘FEEL IT JUNE 5’. This release date is very unusual but interesting, as they are talking directly to the audience. They have chosen a mid-shot to shoe the characters’ facial expressions and to make the audience feel emotionally connected to the characters.

The clothing the characters are wearing looks rough and dirty, their hairs are all messed up and their faces scratched up which again emphasises the rough that they are going to go through.  The character’s rough appearance contrast to the glamorous and posh appearance of Las Vegas, this could be an innuendo to show that the characters are going somewhere that may not match their social class and the tagline emphasises on that “Some
In my opinion, this poster is very successful in terms of setting the scene; it is very clear that the film is based in Vegas and is about some kind of disaster or tragedy that takes place there.
